The Sky Rangers of Soaring Colorado are terrific tour guides who make your treetop adventure unforgettable and make soaring one of the safest adventures around.
In addition, these real life wilderness heroes, acting on a moment's notice, used their formidable skills and training recently to come to the rescue of a stranded and lost kayaker.
In a remote valley of Colorado lives Soaring
Tree Top Adventures, a new extreme zip line adventure and
the only one of its kind in the continental
United States. Soar through and above the
Aspens on the highest quality stainless steel
cable or zip line from platform to platform, designed to be
reminiscent of an Elfin village like something
out of Lord of the Rings. Touch down on
the next platform and catch your breath and be
assured that the platforms are attached to
three-century-old Ponderosa pine trees in an
unobtrusive manner that even has arborists’
attention and gives the term "tree hugger" new
meaning. A Sky Ranger will be there to handle
your equipment and maintain the maximum amount
of safety, so Soaring can be enjoyed by thrill
seekers of all ages. This adventure is
also similar to a tree top tour, canopy tour, or
zip line tour, but more.
Tall Timber Resort,
home to Soaring America, is located in the San
Juan Mountains, adjacent to the San Juan
National Forest. With no road access, guests
arrive from Durango on the Durango-Silverton
Narrow Gauge Railroad. The Railroad is
working closely with Soaring America to provide
transportation along the scenic Animas River by
steam-powered train. Tall Timber Resort is
taking day guests off the train for the first
time to participate in this all-day activity.
For those who want to experience the five-star,
all-inclusive resort, packages start at a 3 day,
2 night minimum stay.
Because we are
accessible only by train (there is no road
access) we have joined with the Durango &
Silverton Railroad to provide your
transportation to and from Soaring Tree Top
Adventures. Visitors from all over the
world come to Durango for the chance to take
ride the train, so you will actually be
enjoying two vacation highlights: your Tree
Top Adventure and the trip on the Durango &
Silverton RR! To learn

Narrow Gauge Railroad, please click on the D&SNGRR

With the aid of a Sky
Ranger, a guest dons his or her state-of-the-art Petzl
harness and is safety checked down to his or her last
caribiner. Groups then proceed to the Soaring Learning
Center where they receive an overview of Soaring, learn
how the course was designed and what to expect in the
trees. It takes about four and a half hours to soar
between 32 stainless steel platforms by traversing over
a mile of helicopter-grade stainless steel cable through
27 ponderosa pines, allowing time to relax in the trees
to enjoy a gourmet lunch. Spans range from 50 feet to
500 feet apart, soaring guests through Aspen forest and
even across the Animas River. There are breathtaking
views along the way, and each platform offers something
different, including being air-lifted by a helicopter
hoist, and having a Sky Guide rappel guests down to the
forest floor.
Soaring
Tree Top Adventures is not just another zip line tour or
canopy tour. It is a true arboreal excursion that is
part thrill-ride and part eco-tour that would even get
Tarzan’s attention. And this extreme sport is right
here between Durango and Silverton, waiting to be
enjoyed by young and old alike.
